Donald W. Osborne, Jr. serves as the moderator of the
Reliability Monitoring ⁄ Instrumentation & Troubleshooting forum. Mr. Osborne brings over 35 years of experience in various aspects of Maintenance Engineering to his role as moderator. He is currently a turbine consultant at Mechtell, specializing in issues related to diaphragm⁄blade ring alignment, coupling alignments, horizontal joint mapping, cylinder distortion measurements, bearing and shaft profiling, vibration analysis and root cause analysis. Prior to joining Mechtell, Mr. Osborne held various plant- and corporate-level engineering positions with Duke Energy and Duke Power, specializing in reliability, performance and related instrumentation and diagnostics. Specific expertise includes:
- Turbine outage planning and direction, damage assessment, repair process, NDE, TG Startup and Commissioning
- Fabrication technical oversight for major turbine⁄generator repairs and refurbishment, Turbine⁄Generator Root Cause Analysis
- Procedure writing for specific turbine maintenance activities, broad industry contact base (GE, Siemens and Westinghouse Turbines)
- Turbine/Generator vibration analysis and balancing, turbine⁄generator measurement & alignment
