Mr. Ward began his career at Westinghouse in 1949 working in the area of stator and rotor coil design and insulation systems. He later earned his academic degree in mathematics in 1954 and continued with post-graduate courses in engineering.
He is the holder of nine patents and 17 disclosures on generator windings and associated equipment. He is a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEEE). He served on the technical committee developing IEEE Maintenance Guide P62 and Rewind Specification P1665 and has acted as an EPRI Advisor and Project Leader.
Upon retiring from Westinghouse in 1994, Mr. Ward formed his own corporation, Ward Electric Service Corporation. Since then, he has worked part time in providing consulting services in many areas of his expertise. These assignments have been foreign and national and have ranged from manufacturing evaluations and advice, root cause analysis, technical projects, to simple inspections and tests.
He has performed various consulting and inspection duties for Partial Discharge problems, coil manufacturing, stator and rotor windings and stator core damage. He has managed several EPRI projects and performed numerous root cause studies. He has also written purchasing and manufacturing specifications and conducted generator-training sessions on both stators and rotors.
Mr. Ward has published and presented numerous papers at EPRI and IEEE conferences on core and winding issues. He also has developed and written procedures for repairing, testing, rewinding and inspecting electrical apparatus.
